"A message from the war department today disclosed that Sgt. Charles Sweetwood, 21 of Elko, has been killed in action in the Korean war.

Sweetwood, son of Mrs. Bonnie Grover of this city, is believed to be the first soldier from the state of Nevada to fall on the Korean battlefield."  EDFP 9-19-50
