Treasured Neighbors

Dedicated to Tom and Dorothy Gallagher

 Through my eyes

I see the world

It’s all mixed up -

Jumbled and swirled

I see the bad

It's always there

Meanness, hate and discontent

From ignorance to terror

I also see the good

These are the wise, the kind

Those who know the virtues

Admittedly, they are harder to find

Then there is that middle ground

That contains the most I’ve seen

A vast milieu - not too good -

Not so bad  - just the in-between

For years, I have suspected

Then last Saturday I learned the truth

About our neighbors - down the way

Their act provided irrefutable proof

In my family’s time of need

In a period of quiet desperation

Without asking or even suggesting

They recognized a tough situation

They helped us  - not for recognition

Not just because they could

Not for worldly gain

But because - "it made them feel good"

May God bless you both

You made our lives easier and gave us hope

Your caring has helped us

Both physically and to better cope

From our hearts

You have our gratitude and appreciation

From our souls

Our love and admiration

The truth I learned last Saturday

Is that our neighbors - down the way

Are kind, considerate and caring

They are the best in each and every way.
