Thought Provoking Poems Agree or disagree. You won't necessarily find any of the answers here - just questions of life - as they unfold.
A Little Too Late Dedicated to George Taylor Sr.
Kind words said, a little too late. After his entry - through the 'Pearly-Gate'.
Sitt'n in the church, listen'n to what they say. Things he'd a like to heard, a bit earlier than today.
Like, about his humorous demeanor, his honest, friendly manner. How he took the worst of life in stride, and thoroughly enjoyed a little cheerful banter.
Well, now he's gone, and we're a little worse for wear. Didn't know he had so many friends, that would gather 'round to say a prayer.
Take a small flower to remember. Toss a little dirt in the hole. God, I loved this man. Please Dear Lord, bless his soul. - Dan Turner 10/21/00
Spare the Child?
I have come to consider. Much to my dismay. That it must be a given. What many people say.
That an angry, elevated voice a few choice words of diction, a pointed finger, a whack or two; can solve a child's behavioral affliction.
I am fairly certain, that it works to some degree. To solve the current situation, and may do even more you see.
It will also assist in teaching the control of outward emotion, how to placate those about you, and help to stifle - loving devotion.
To rid them of that confident, inner-peace. To keep them from being too bold. To teach how to say hurtful, stinging words, that they, in turn, can use, when they're old.
What are the easy answers? I don't pretend to know. Even though I'm nearly fifty, and the gray begins to show.
Admittedly, I ain't no Phd. but I have learned a-lot. To realize from what Dorothy Nolte wrote. That it's common sense, she's got. - Dan Turner 10/12/00
Life's Decisions
One of Cupids arrows pulled from the quiver of love. Soon to be released, from winged flight above.
Resting in a field of enchanted clover. The cherubs' gift is now in-place. Wrapped with garlands of pink roses for a future filled with joy and grace.
Nestled in the shadow of true love. Three tiny hearts begin to grow. The future seems both bright and clear. Heaven has smiled on those below.
Then a quite unexpected turn. The cherubs progress has begun to slow. They are now intently watching, what is unfolding down below.
The uncertainty of youth. With the confidence of knowing, The path of destiny may soon be altered. To keep these tiny hearts from growing. - Dan Turner 10/22/00
Our government keeps track of a lot of stuff (see the 'Prospective' page). In 1996, in the United States, there were an estimated 6,240,00 babies conceived, 1,370,000 babies aborted, 980,000 fetal losses, resulting is 3,890,000 live births. If you include the aborted and fetal loss babies in the total annual death rate (regardless of age), in the United States, the number 1 cause of death in the US is abortion. The following are the estimated top 14 reasons for deaths, from conception, in the United States for 1997. (1) abortion 1,370,000 (2) fetal losses 980,000 (3) heart disease 726,974 (4) cancer 539,577 (5) brain disease 159,791 (6) lung disease 109,029 (7) accidents 95,644 (8) pneumonia and flu 86,449 (9) diabetes 62,636 (10) suicide 30, 535 (11) kidney disease 25,331 (12) liver diseases 25,175 (13) murder 16,914 and (14) other 436,190. There are some thoughtful points to be considered here. For a little more perspective, from 1917 to 1973, 616,629 Americans honorably lost their lives in war (WWI, WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam Conflict - see 'Perspective' page for details). Simple math tells us that twice as many babies are now aborted each year than Americans killed in all our wars, since 1917. Is it 'right to choose', 'reducing the birth rate for environmental factors' or just 'baby killing'? To me, this need not be as much a subject on abortion, as it is making more responsible and better choices as to if you should have a child now. Not leaving it up to chance. Giv'n it a little more thought, before the ... fact, so to speak. Perhaps, instead of aborting 1.37 million babies a year in the US, we could do a better job on the conceiving end. Give a little more dignity to life. Plan better, use protection, choose wisely. What do you think? Sounds too easy, huh? A final thought, in 1997, there were a recorded 16,914 murders, 65% of which were committed by firearms. A terrible statistic that many are demanding that something to be done now about it. But where is the sound of alarm for the 1,370,000 aborted, babies? Where is the dignity, where is the perspective, where is the common sense? As any real cowboy can tell you, put a bridle on before ya saddle up.

If you got this far - I figured you needed something to make you feel a bit better. Ah, just what the doctor ordered.
