Jeremy John Thompson

November 17, 1972 to May 7, 1999

26 years

Elko, Elko County, Nevada

Along the side of the I-80 freeway, beside the eastbound lane, between the western and central Elko exits are two white cross monuments to Jeremy J. Thompson.  They are about 500 feet apart.  I can almost guarantee if you are going the speed limit you will never see them in amongst the sagebrush.  But I have never been one especially given to the speed limit.   I prefer to travel at my own pace - not always a popular trait for those wishing you would conform.  But you see more, when you take the long way home.  You may not know more.  You will discover more questions than answers.  Some of them haunt you for a lifetime.  Who was Jeremy Thompson?  Why did he die here?  Did he choose this place and way?  Or was it an accident or something else?  Who were the ones that cared so much about him that they set out these crosses?  How would the world be different now if Jeremy was still with us?  I know none of these answers.  But here is what I have learned thus far.  If you wish to add more ... just let me know.
