Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is that time of year

When family and friends gather round near.

Gorge ourselves with turkey and dressing

After we've said a little blessing.

Kind of reminiscent of times of old

When we'd stock up plenty - before it got cold.

'Course we don't invite the Indians no more

Not sure they'd come - they might be sore.

After the first Thanksgiving it kinda turned sad

After that it was downright bad.

We took over the land and killed the game

When they got mad - we treated them the same.

We wiped out the buffalo and slaughtered the deer

We cut down the forests to make the land clear.

Overgrazed the prairies with cattle and sheep

Polluted the rivers and air - and didn't loose sleep.

But now with the advancement of our civilization

We're wiser - we strive for ecologic conservation.

But I've got to admit - we're not as wise as we think

'Cause toward the Indians - I think - we still stink.

For here in Nevada - it's the Indians we're suing

Government says it's the land they're abusing

So were going in and taking their cattle and horses

Using the Bureau of Land Management's special forces.

Well I went out first hand to look at the devastation

Got to admit - to me - looked like the rest of Nevada's vegetation.

So I shake my head - wonder a bit - then let out a sigh

Wonder if the Indian in that old commercial - has yet another tear in his eye.
