Snobowl, Elko County, Nevada

The Snobowl (often seen spelled Snowbowl or Snow Bowl) is a rather recent and very well received addition to the Elko landscape.  It is located six miles northwest of Elko.  You can get there by going up north 5th Street, then 6 miles further on the well maintained dirt road.  The Snobowl is at the head of the west fork of Eightmile Creek.  Yes, you can take the family car on this road - at least this time of year.  When you say Snobowl, I think of Mr. Charlie Chester.  I'm sure a lot of people were involved in this project.  But he's the one I remember, as being incessant in his promotion on this winter activity for Elko.  I'm not sure if Charlie even skis.

Since I visited the Snobowl - with snow - it truly is a family fun park.  If you don't ski just go up on the lift for the ride and see the wonderful views at the top.  The kids and I had a GREAT TIME.  If you ski you have it made.  Long slopes located all around the bowl and very few skiers.  An undiscovered skiers paradise.

The 'snow bunnies cows' are already lining up for this winter's ski season!

This is the epitome of multi-purpose land usage.

View from Snobowl.  Elko is in valley.  First mountainous range are Elko Hills and in the distant are the Ruby Mountains.  The Snobowl is in the Adobe Range. The canyon (lower left of photo) you follow to get to the Snobowl was created by Eightmile Creek.  The parking lot of the Snobowl is at about 6300 feet.  Elko is at an elevation 5100 feet (close enough to be called a mile high).
