Elko, Elko County, Nevada
This page is dedicated to Bill Settelmeyer, his wife Louise and his friend Paul Keyser. In the Elko city park there is a granite monument over by the Horizon Hospice Rose Garden. I have seen it many times over the years but never took the time to learn more of it. Today I did.

If you got this far and read it all, you know the monument was dedicated in 1973. Bill Settelmeyer passed away three years later, at 87 years of age, on August 3, 1976. When the monument was dedicated his friend Paul Keyser was 94 years old. Paul passed away six months earlier than Bill, on January 21, 1976, at the age of 97. As for the bird droppings on the monument, I intentionally didn't edit them out. You see the last paragraph of Louise Settelmeyer's obituary states: "She was an avid gardener and nature lover, especially birds, and became an authority on birds by reading and observing their annual migrations. They were attracted to a protected feeder, equipped with running water at her home" I figured it was appropriate to leave the addition to the monument because it might have been left by one of the great-great grand fledglings that she once fed at her home in Elko.
