Rose List

The following is a list of the Dr. Buck's roses.

Roses marked with '' have been planted in the garden.  Those in yellow have been ordered and will be planted in 2001.  If the County sidewalk reconstruction project has not completed, these roses will be planted in a temporary location and transplanted in the fall.  The remaining have not been located in commerce.  If you can assist us in locating these roses we would be very appreciative.

All rose names have been linked to the Iowa State University Rose Site.  Their excellent and well organized site, contains complete descriptions, photos, and has some excellent suggestions and recommendations for growing roses in a more challenging climate.  There are also discussions on bugs and insects that like roses, too, and rose diseases and viruses.  It is a wonderful asset to the web.

The Rose Registration Date (after the rose name) is linked to the Help Me Find Roses site.  I have done this for a few important reasons.  First, it gives additional information on the roses (including parentage); second it often provides another photo to look at (always enjoyable to me - especially in the winter); and lastly and most important at the bottom of the page it often gives a list of suppliers where you can buy the rose.  The hours of work that has gone into constructing and maintaining their site must be incredible.  And, yes it is very good.

Where a rose bush was purchased is now provided for each plant in the garden. This is such an easy thing to do, but I didn't think of it until I visited Cass's Roses ' site (thank you for the idea).  Several varieties of roses were purchased from different nurseries or the same nursery at different times.  This was done to determine if (1) there is consistency (trueness) in a variety between nurseries or for that matter at the same nursery and (2) if own-root roses appear similar to grafted varieties.  On the next up-date of this page, I will add those rose that are grafted and which are on their own roots.  Before I write this information here I would like to verify it in the garden.

Lastly, this is a non-profit site and garden.  Nurseries where the following roses were purchased are provided for documentation and convenience only.  No remuneration has been received from any of these companies.  All these suppliers have been first class and can be counted on as professional quality plant sources, without rose virus.  There are other first class nurseries in the links directory where I have purchased roses for my personal garden.  These are equally quality choices - they just didn't sell the varieties I needed at the time I need them.
