Let's Write A Poem

It's the end of January and that means Cowboy Poetry time in Elko.  Ever write a poem?  I didn't say a selection of fine literary poetry - just a poem.

First:  Pick something to write about.

This isn't so tough - pick something you know about.

Why?  - it's easier ...

I pick Grammar #2, Cowboys and Valentines Day

Second:  Write some stuff down about the subject you picked.  Don't worry  - listen to the inner you (your subconscious mind) - give it a chance to let you know what it - you - think.  The more you write at this point the better.  What you don't use now. You can save up and use later.

My heart is at Grammar #2

Grammar #2 makes me feel blue

Blue horses and red valentines

My cowboy heart longs for you

The school days through

For the one I admire

For the one I love

Kindness sometimes speaks a sad song

Long winter days

A cowboy's heart may be true

Third:  Kind of spruce it up with your conscious mind

This Cowboy's Heart

 This cowboy's heart -

it longs for you.

You are the one

I love - it's true.

Don't tell me - that I'll soon forget -

the winters, that we've been through.

For I'll always fondly remember ...

My first true love at Grammar #2.

I spoke to her of blue horses.

She opened all my valentines.

Now, I truly know:

Those were the best of times.

Forth:  Put your name on it, date it and put where ya

wrote it so when you're older and your memory isn't so

good you can remember.  Write it in a little smaller

print - so you'll look humble.

Fifth:  Have your mom put it on the fridge ... she'll be proud  - guarantee it.

Now it's your turn.  Good Luck Pardner!
