On April 11, 2004, I was flipping through ebay and ran across the following police badges for sale. They are police badges for Sergeant Oliver in Elko, Nevada. I took this as an omen and attempted to learn a little more about Sergeant Oliver and the history of Elko. With the help of Mrs. Judy Swett, who provided the location of Mr. Oliver's final resting place in the Elko Cemetery and his address in 1948, I did the "gum shoe" part and went to the Northeastern Nevada Museum to see what I could learn from the papers at the time, the cemetery to pay respects at his grave, and to take a photograph of his home on Juniper Street.
