The Nevada Youth Training Center  (NYTC) is in Elko, Nevada.  It is a State run training center for boys 12 or so to 18 years of age who the courts have determined could use some extra training in life skills and schooling.  It is a good program.  I am proud to be associated with it.  This poem is not an official statement of philosophy.  I just liked the title too well not to use it.

NYTC  - Philosophy

If your grade is only seventy-four,

Thought you deserved a whole lot more.

Ain’t no reason to get mad

Serves no purpose feeling sad

Try a little harder – it ain’t all that bad

Keep a-goin!

Got an IR for being defiant,

Make yourself be more compliant.

So you got an NFI

This ain’t no time to defy

Say "I’ll fix it, Sir!" – and look ‘em in the eye

Keep a-goin!

Got in trouble for too much talking,

Well keep it shut, when you’re walking.

Don’t be playing in the latrine

Just brush your teeth and get ‘em clean

Just get on with it – this ain’t no reason to be mean

Keep a-goin!

Life’s too short to let it waste away,

Work hard - do good today.

Don’t argue – be polite

Just say "Yes Sir!" – and do it right!

Try hard – with all your might!

Keep a-goin!

And if you fail – ain’t no big sin.

Dust it off - try again!

Keep a-goin!
