More Stories & Poems

I originally wrote this for a boy, in Indian Cottage, at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, Nevada.  I have said it many times for different boys since then.  So late one night, as I thought of it again, I rewrote it for all of the boys.

Dear Lord,

Please forgive me for those things

That I didn’t do so well since we last spoke

Please help me to do better.

Jesus I have a special prayer request tonight.

I would like to pray for the boys

Here at NYTC.

I know they are here for some bad decisions

They made earlier in their lives.

But they are good young men.

They have some problems to work out yet

- like all of us do.

But they seem to be trying pretty hard.

Please help them to do a good job.

Please help them to make the right decisions.

Please guide and direct them and help them to be wise.

Please comfort them and warm their souls.

Help them to have the courage to do what’s right.

If it be your will – please help them to earn their way out of NYTC soon.

If not then please help them to understand

That you must feel they need to learn a bit more-

So as not to fail when they return home.

Please help them when they get out.

Help them to remember to keep in touch with you

- especially when times get tough.

Help them to stay out of gangs and not use drugs.

Please help them to accomplish great things with their lives.

One day to have good jobs they enjoy

And happy families of their own.

Help them to remember the needs of others

Especially their families, communities and churches.

Please guide and direct them and help them to be wise and good.

In Jesus name I pray – Amen.
