1907 - Present Midas is in Elko County, barely. It is about 10 miles east of the Humboldt - Elko County line. Using the word remote probably is an understatement. The town is located in a narrow canyon in a mountainous area between the Osgood Mountains to the west and the Tuscarora Mountains to the east. We arrived in Midas rather late and only had the opportunity to spend a very short time in town. I know we missed the current Normandy underground gold mine operation (we saw it only from a distance), the abandoned mines, the cemetery, the bar/restaurant tour. We missed more than we saw. We have got to go back. Some of the abandoned gold and silver mines were named: Miners Gold, Little Jewel, Blue Bell, Rex, Link, Jackson, and the Esmeralda mine. This town is one of Nevada's treasures. If you go there drive carefully and watch for cows - it is open range.
The following Nevada Adventures link is terrific!
