The Journey

Far along the path

I've traveled.

Past the fields, farms

And pastures.

Past the cities

Both large and small.

Past the mountains,

Streams and valleys.

To this bench, along my way.

Here for a brief moment -

I sit, to rest.

To catch my breath.

I look behind me

From whence I came.

Ponder memories

Both good and bad.

Then to the left

I look ahead.

Toward my future's

Autumn leaves.

This I know -

The path grows shorter.

But I know not

What it holds in-store.

So once again

To my feet I rise.

Smooth my graying hair

And give a sigh.

Once again,

I begin the journey.

To pursue this quest ...

Until I die.
