Elko County, Nevada
Grindstone Mountain is just west of Elko. It is easily seen from most of town. It is easiest to see from Hunter Overpass on I-80, just east of Carlin Canyon. The top of the mountain is composed of flat lying limestone beds (I would assume the Strathearn Formation), that gives it the look of a layer cake. Earlier this year I was wondering what was up there and what you could see from the top of Grindstone Mountain. Now we both know.
The hazy conditions in the photographs are due to recent range fires in the Elko region.
