Emotions

During
the end of December 2001, I explored the topic 'The
Virtues'.
A
topic that doesn't come up much in conversation. The
Family Virtues Guide lists 52 virtues. Other lists have more,
some less, but I liked this one. The next logical step is to
determine the definition and learn the origin of the words. Right
- the dictionary. A year later now, the question comes to mind -
"What are the Emotions?" After visiting a number of
internet sites - my window to the world - I picked the list at "Source
Counseling". It is a Crackerjack site. After
reading the list, it is amazing to me that the human body is able
to have so many emotions (the list contains about 500 emotions).
As an aside, Aristotle's
List of Emotions, only contained 14 - anger, mildness, love, enmity,
fear, confidence, shame, shameless, benevolence, pity, indignation,
envy, emulation and contempt. Is the mind getting more emotions
with time or we just refining and increasing our knowledge of how the
body works and feels? What is most interesting to me that as I read the list
from "Source
Counseling", my body responded
to the written emotion. What I mean is as I read 'sadness' and tried to
feel sad - my shoulders went down, my head tilted to one side, and I looked downward
and sighed. I read 'anger' my eyes become sharply focused forward, my shoulders went
up and my whole body leaned forward and I had an urge to stand up and confront
something. It was fun ... to me at least. After a very
enjoyable time visiting the site, the question comes to mind - how do
you define an emotion. Right
again, the first stop - the dictionary.
