Here are some old pictures of Elko, NV that I have scavenged from the net and other sources. Also is a terse description that accompanied the photo. The page is pretty rough right now and there are many photos to add. But I wanted to get started ... so here ya go.

Vintage chrome finish postcard of portion of downtown Elko, Nevada. Back of card reads, "Elko, Nevada. Elko, where the old West still lives and home of the famous Silver State Stampede Rodeo. Elko County is the largest beef cattle producer in the U.S. This is a view of U. S. Highway 40 leading through downtown Elko." A "Plastichrome" card published by Geo. Mc Co., Box 7146, Murray, Utah.

This is a nice early real photo postcard of a street scene in Elko County, Elko, Nevada. The Rexell Drug Store, and many 1940s auto's.

We see the main drag in the community of Elko, Nevada. Some of the signs are for the Studebaker Garage, Sewell's Bowl-O-Drome, Elks Club, Central Market, etc.

El Capitan Club, Hunter Theater (both in what is now the Commercial parking lot). Next is the Commercial Hotel and Casino.

Pictured is the Nevada Bank of Commerce and on the near corner First National Bank.

Mid-1910s era real photo postcard of some sort of military procession on parade in Elko, Nevada. Elko is located in Elko County. Sign on two story building in distance reads “Elko Roller Mills” and in the background, at center, is the warehouse of the George Russell Company, prominent Elko merchants and cattlemen.

"The overhauling and replacing of machinery at the Elko Roller Mills, is about completed and they will be in shape to start up in the fall with thoroughly updated machinery."

Crisp, clear real photo postcard image of a man, mule and small brewery wagon (more like a buckboard) in Elko, Nevada around 1909. Elko is located in Elko County. The Elko attribution is based on the terrain and the fact that this great image came out of an album of almost exclusively Elko images. The name partially visible on the side of the wagon reads “Becker Brewing and Malting” (it's not real distinct, but it is there). I did a little online research and discovered that Becker, located in Ogden, Utah, had an agent in Elko by the name of J. D. Carroll. My guess is the gentleman in the wagon is probably Mr. Carroll.

This has the postmark cancellation date of Oct 1946 on the back. The shop on the corner is a pastry shop then I can read Rupes Pool, Commercial Hotel, Silver Dollar Club and a Cafe. This is one of the few pictures I have seen of the Basque Hotel (now gone) next to the Henderson Bank Building

February 8, 2004 Above House. Railroad relocated as part of Project Lifesaver in the '80s.

early black and white postcard of Hotel Mayer in Elko, Nevada. Has all the old cars parked outside. Neat! On the back it gives a paragraph about Elko, Nevada and the hotel. It reads:

"On both Southern Pacific and Western Pacific railways, is best hotel and auto supply town on Victory Highway between Salt Lake and Reno - population 4,000. Elko is a U.S. Air Mail Division point and also suppy center for Nevada's principal stockraising county. Assessed valuation $40,000,000. The Gateway to Mountain City Nevada richest copper mine in the world." This is the largest Hotel in Eastern Nevada with 110 rooms - Cafe, bar and garage in connection

This is a black and white real photo postcard, not used, circa 1950's. I like the circa 1938 car in the foreground, looks a lot like the PT Cruise, now the craze! The image has excellent clarity and contrast.

This card was mailed 8/24/48, does not list a publisher or photographer and is in good condition with some light markings on the front. The building is marked United Air Lines while the plane has markings on the tail NC13719 and on the side TLA.
