Elko - Humboldt Hot Springs, Nevada

Just north of the "Hot Hole"  along the Humboldt river are three hot springs.  I never knew they were there until recently.   They are really incredible and really hot!  Together with the hot hole these hot springs are of Yellowstone Park quality - albeit on a much smaller scale.  They should really be preserved as a tourist attraction.   Here are the photos.

Main hot spring along the south bank of the Humboldt River.  The spring has a noticeable sulfur smell and I would assume the brown staining is iron oxide.

The white layered rocks in the foreground are hot spring deposits.

About 200 feet east of the above hot spring is this smaller hot spring.

At the left corner of these buildings is a third smaller hot spring.  If anyone knows about these buildings I would like to add the history to this page (turner@mightymoose.us).  On July 28, 2003 - a year after I posted this page - I received a response via the magic of the internet.  Please visit the page on these buildings about "The Beekeeper".

Hot springs guardians.

Bull snake caught by Wayne Johnson on a June 5, 2002 trip to Elko Hot Pots.  The snake was release unharmed to further its career as mouse huntsman.
