Born: ca 1792 in Fauquier County, Virginia

Died: August 15, 1863 at Gravely Ford on the Humboldt River

while traveling west by wagon train along the California Trail near what is now

Beowawe, Eureka County, Nevada

While we were here on a cold January afternoon, I noticed most the solitude and peacefulness of this place. I could almost hear the squeaks and groans of the wagons, the plodding and snorting of the oxen still in the air. Then came the faint nearly inaudible voice of a young man whispering - "Goodbye ma, we'll miss ya. May God bless ..."

At bottom of terrace looking south at cross marking Maiden's Grave. The cross stands about 30 feet high. On this side the cross is lettered "Maiden's Grave" on the other side "Lucinda Duncan".
