More Stories & Poems

Some of you asked me to share some of my Australian memories with you when I returned.  Well, I started formulating my prose while I was still there. As usual, whenever I set down to write, it invariably "becomes" a poem.  I love couplets!  Anyway, here are some of my best memories of a trip just 2 weeks into my memories now.  Enjoy! and thanks to those who gave me good hints for a better travel experience.  Paula Lesbo

"DOWN UNDER"

by Paula Lesbo

In the land "Down Under" it is true,

Wonderful adventures wait for you.

An island and a continent, God made this land;

Tucked within its borders lie wonders created by his hand.

Green and blue blend into one;

Toss in its people and add some sun.

Ferry with me to Sydney cove.

Plan your route and prepare to rove.

Walk the Quay, explore The Rocks,

Step aboard a boat from along the docks.

Cruise the harbor and enjoy its views.

Your camera you will surely use.

Swim with me at Manly beach.

It's great fun and I won't preach.

Train, monorail, ferry, or bus --

From point A to B -- without any fuss.

Koalas, kangaroos, crocs and shark --

Each can be found in its own natural park.

Take a dive at the Great Barrier Reef.

Underwater visions will be your new motif.

From the air, bid Sydney adieu.

Log into memory a new venue.

Fly away home to recuperate.

Australian goodbye; "good day, mate!"

penned while there, September 2003

Best wishes for a great day - whether your mind is on Australia or not!
