Wish I Was A Cowboy

I wish I was a cowboy

Ride'n on the range.

'Cause life in this ole city

Is gett'n mighty strange.

Sitt'n by the campfire

Watch'n the ember glows.

Sparks a sail'n now 'n then

When the warm wind blows.

Mournful howls of the coyotes

Fall'n on my ear.

Kinda brings ya comfort

Ain't nuth'n here to fear.

Smell of sage and dust

A cling'n to yer clothes.

Not the smell of dryer sheets

Try'n ta trick yer nose.

Life is more honest here

Ya can see it in a cowboy's eyes.

Only comes from that inner peace

From steer'n clear of lies.

I yearn for that simpler life

When yer asked, "This an 'lection year?"

And ya hear yerself say'n

"Think so - But I ain't too clear."

'Cause there's more important things

To occupy yer mine.

Like listen'n to the fire burn

And watch'n the North Star shine.
