The Big "E"

Landmark Letter

Ever look up toward the hill with the big "E" and wonder what it looked like up close?  Ever wonder what you could see if you were standing up there?  How about why is it there?  Or who put it there?  That's what this page is all about.

Just south of the Big "E" is a little higher hill with radio antennas on it.  From the top of this hill you can see Spring Creek, Pleasant Valley and Lamoille.

The Ruby Mountains are the mountains across the valley

A closer look of the Ruby Mountains.  The large canyon in the left center of the range shown is Lamoille Canyon.  In this canyon there is a side canyon known as Thomas Canyon.  Check-out Howard Hickson's link below about the Big "E" and see what this canyon has to do with the Big "E"

Cross marker on Lamoille Highway.

Thomas Toops, 17, of Elko died Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at Elko General Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Lamoille Highway.
