 The Appleby Family Tree

My mother took exception to my poem "Thee Familee Tree" on the 'Poems For Fun Page'.  She said her lineage didn't come from a monkey; but Adam and Eve.  So to be fair, here is what the Bible teaches us about the original seed of all our family trees.  It might be helpful to remember that 'Appleby' is pronounced 'Applebee', and that it is my mother's maiden name.

  The Appleby Family Tree

It would perhaps be quite presumptuous

To think their last names were Appleby

But they did gain knowledge (both good and bad)

From the oft portrayed, legendary, apple tree.

So bear with me now, as we consider,

the roots and trunk of our family tree.

The Genesis of our beginnings.

For without them, where would we be?

If not as early as in the garden.

- Wouldn't it be delightful -

If our name came from one of Noah’s sons.

For, they were told - go and be fruitful.

(“These are the three sons of Noah: that went forth of the

Ark and of them was the whole earth overspread.”)

                       Shem

                       Ham (father of Canaan)

                       Ja-pheth

The course from here is as yet uncharted (at least by me).  But I think it might be interesting to wade thru the begets one winter day.  To see if I can determine, if it was Shem, Ham or Ja-pheth, who was responsible for me.
